Background: 

This novel is based very loosely upon the poem by Johann Wulfgang von Goethe, which I have provided for your reading pleasure below.  The poem has haunted me since I first read it as a child and I hope it comes to haunt you as well.

The Powder Universe:

You might notice that this novel has a sub-title.  This is to indicate that the story takes place in a universe with a special drug called, the Powder, and happens in the city of Winter Haven.  The novel The Artifact is also set in this universe.

Extra Warning: 

You will also notice that in the warnings to this piece it mentions incest.  When I say incest, I mean INCEST.  There is no flinching away from it.  Those of you who know my Star Wars fanfic, Forbidden, will understand that I do graphic incest.  If that is not to your taste, please move on to one of the many other stories here that does not contain it.
